Well, we’re back after our hiatus in protest of SOPA and PIPA, though now OPEN seems to be the internet cockblocker of the month. *refrains from ranting about it*
I just wanted to let you guys know about some of the other things Back That Elf Up is involved with around the web. We’re pretty excited about it and hope that you’ll check two really great sites out.
The first project is transcribing the webcomic ‘Dissident Priest‘ by Vas Littlecrow. Dissident Priest is one of my favorite comics, truth be told. It tells the story of Tsar, the titular priest who is falsely accused of a horrific crime and imprisoned in a Soviet Russian prison. Espionage, gypsies, spies, sex, politics and more fill this tale. The scenes run the gamut between gut wrenching and laugh out loud. Vas has really done a great job of writing this story and I’m looking forward to the next chapter. The online comic will be going on hiatus in February as the artwork is being redone and let me tell you, that art is sick. It’s gorgeous. It perfectly matches the atmosphere that Vas has set with zir story and characters. So definitely check it out now and check back when the new artwork comes along.
The transcribing is being done as part of Vas’ accessibility initiative, in an effort to get the comics out and available to as many people possible; in this case, specifically those with vision problems and have programs to read web content. This is a great project and I’m really so honored to be a part of it and to help out with Dissident Priest. Elves and Trolls are also high fiving as I started writing posts for Troll in the Corner! TitC is a great site for geeks and gamers in particular, providing ideas, reviews and personal anecdotes regarding the gaming world. Troll in the Corner is also the home of Argyle and Crew, the first RPG that centers around SOCK PUPPETS. Yes, Sock Puppets. Do you have small children that you need to bring to the Dark Side, I mean, get into gaming? It’s a really great game for kids but also fun for adults that might need a break from dice and stacks of paper. It’s also on sale at DrivethruRPG. So there’s that.
At this moment I’m writing a series called ‘Reality Makes the Best Fantasy,’ showcasing plot hooks, character hooks and ideas based on things that are in fact real. If you play RPGs check it out!
